From startup to industry leader

When the rest catch up, REDstack will already be ahead. Choose the future, choose REDstack.

    2024 – Future

Smarter stacks reduce maintenance, enabling broader recovery

Electrodialysis will drive the change to create a sustainable future, especially when applied with bipolar membranes.

By leveraging cutting-edge technology, the new modular, replaceable stack with a crossflow design (high turbulence) enables better utilization of the membrane surface, resulting in reduced maintenance requirements. REDstack are frontrunners with scaled BDPM technology, applied at industrial scale to new applications such as carbon capture, nitrogen recovery, and more.

This progress ties directly into our mission of rethinking electro membrane stacks, not just as a technology, but as a transformative solution to global resource recovery challenges. At REDstack, we are focused on breaking through conventional limits and setting new standards for how electrodialysis can change industries and improve the world.

    2015 - 2024

    Scaling technology and advancing electrodialysis

Over the next decade, REDstack took significant steps forward in scaling up its technology. By overcoming challenges in fluid dynamics to produce electricity more efficiently, REDstack developed  the best electrodialysis stacks in the industry. What once started as a small startup now stands at the forefront of electrodialysis innovation, continually optimizing and rethinking electro membrane stacks to make them more efficient and impactful in real-world applications.

    2015 - 2020

    Making history with Blue Energy

In 2015, when Dutch King Willem-Alexander inaugurated the world’s first RED power plant on the Afsluitdijk, it was a landmark achievement. Powered by the natural mixing of fresh and saltwater, this pilot plant began producing 50 kW of continuous Blue Energy, a key advantage over intermittent sources like solar and wind. Using fresh IJsselmeer water and saltwater from the Wadden Sea, the facility demonstrated the real-world feasibility of clean, continuous power generation.

In 2016, REDstack earned the prestigious title of National Icon, strengthening its position as a leader and Dutch pioneering in the transition to sustainable energy.

    Gebouw Wetsus
    2005 - 2015

A startup for reverse electrodialysis is born

Founded at Wetsus and sparked by the vision of Pieter Hack, REDstack was driven from day one by a passion for renewable energy and breakthrough thinking. This marked the beginning of a journey toward transforming the potential of REDstack staying one step ahead of the ElectroMembrane stack market.
